@davidprins5504 There were quite a few Dutch veterans that fought on the Allied side in WW2 fighting in the post-war Dutch East Indies, too. My grandfather was a case in point. He served in the Prinses Irenebrigade and then, the 'police actions' in future Indonesia. When repatriated, he married my war widow grandmother and adopted my dad.

@UCN2027 There's a difference between the Waffen-SS, the Allgemeine-SS and the SS-Totenkopfverbände. As the combat branch of the SS, Waffen-SS members may or may not have been war criminals, depending on their service record, but the latter two branches of the SS were invariably linked to war crimes and/or crimes against humanity. Ironically, Estonian and Latvian former members of the Waffen-SS guarded the top Nazi henchmen at the Nuremberg trials. Exceptionally, they had been forcibly conscripted into the Waffen-SS.
