@yankeepapa304 I lived in Frankfurt, next to a former Berliner, a decorated WW2 veteran. He told that during the Berlin airlift all was forgiven. They had a US cargo plane almost crash in their backyard. The whole crew perished. Later, he went to work for a company that provided logistics services to the USAF. Interestingly, he was very keen to volunteer for another airlift that brought relief to Russians left destitute after the collapse of the USSR.

@Eli-i1b8k Humans are social animals. Are you saying the Allies were exceptions? My grandfather had two Russian PoWs as farmhands during the war. They were much liked and vice versa. After the collapse of the USSR, my great-uncle's former PoW farmhand came visiting. He said ours had died in Gulags. As an engineer, he survived, because the USSR needed them.
