  2.  @jpx08  My native Netherlands had a great run after declaring itself neutral in the run-up to WW2. Despite putting up only a brief resistance to the German invasion, it suffered disproportionate casualties during the course of the war, most of which were civilian. It's safe to say the Dutch government failed its people by failing to prepare for war. You're advocating future failure.

  5. If the Democracy Index is to believed, Sweden should educate the USA on how to run a democracy. Sweden is ranked 4th, the USA 30th. Just saying.

  7. Nice conspiracy theory. Russia has its anti-NATO in the CSTO, but that one may have gone defunct after the Armenia debacle. Anyhoo, none of the US's neighbours is eager to join, so we're hypothesizing. I guess the US would have to grin and bear it.

  8.  @spartak9101  Aw, you have to resort to name-calling right off the bat. And the cute emoticon. If you're acting your age, I'm guessing it's 12...13 tops? Finland in particular has always been on the frontlines. Wisely, Finland didn't let its guard down when the Cold War drew to a close, much like Russia's other immediate neighbours, who knew better as well. Sweden did experience a brief lapse in judgement, but they started making amends much earlier than Western Europe, which stubbornly wanted to believe in a reformed Russia. And don't upvote your own posts. It's seedy.

For the sake of argument, Finland entered the war when the USSR, with Hitler's explicit blessing as per the secret addendum to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, launched an invasion against it. When Stalin miserably failed to conquer Finland, Hitler lost all respect for his ally and turned against him. No honour among thieves, after all. It's telling that it took Russia 50 years to admit to the unholy alliance with Nazi Germany. Again, you upvoted your own comment. Yuckerama.

  12.  @bobbyantrobus1805  Putin has an opportunistic approach to communism and the Soviet Union. He's a Stalin fanboy, but vilifies Lenin for squandering parts of the Russian Empire. It figures, Stalin managed to claw back lost territory, but not entirely to the satisfaction of Emperor Putin, who fancies himself Peter the Great.
