  1. By the looks of it, it was a very carefully planned attack by Hamas. What makes you suspect that Hamas didn't anticipate Israel's reaction? Israel is very predictable in how it responds to these sort of attacks. We're witnessing nothing new here. Only the scale is different. The Gazans gave power to Hamas, sort of, who subsequently seized it brutally and cancelled all future elections. The West Bank is another matter altogether. That's Fatah territory, who're none to keen on Hamas either. Support for Hamas was flagging in Gaza, which is probably why Hamas wanted to go out with a bang, in the hope they'll be reborn from the ashes, bigger and stronger. I'm afraid they might be right unless Israel restarts peace negotiations with the Palestinian Authority in earnest.
