  5.  @thurstonclevehicks  NATO as an alliance did not make any promises to Gorbachev, nor sign any treaties to that effect. I do believe there was some talk about minding Soviet borders. Where is this so-called Soviet Union now? It's funny how you Putler fans always expect everyone to tiptoe around Russia, while at the same time, Russia itself can stomp around in its jackboots wherever it pleases. And this on account of a regional power that's too big for its britches.
