It's common knowledge in the scientific community that breakthroughs build on previous breakthroughs. Newton wrote about standing on the shoulders of giants. A giant from whom Newton copied was Ibn al-Haytham, a medieval Iraqi scientist. I see you're a neophyte in intellectual property. Most patents (not to boast, but I have several to my name) concern small technical improvements to rather mundane existing technology. Any inventor can also tell you that LEGO (invented by Danes, by the way) is great for prototyping innovations. There may be a new Steve Jobs among these kids yet (I suppose I need to explain to you that Jobs had a Syrian dad).

If there's none, it's like asking yourself why the British didn't "create" the semiconductor even though you're sitting on an abundance of silicate minerals. As for LEGO, are you trying to make a point or lending more credence to mine?
