  3. It's claimed that Lavrov actually opposed to the occupation of Crimea, but master Putin didn't really consult him before sending in his Little Green Men. Lavrov is there to smooth things over the best he can, like a maid ironing clothes. It's not like he's got the power to decide, except for the power setting on his iron.
