@JimKat5646 You can ask Russia how that's working out. Over there, supermarkets have to fit anti-theft devices on bars of butter.

@joshboehmke6145 Manufacturing was "stollen [sic]" from you? You foolishly outsourced the bulk of it to low-cost countries. You should prosecute your own outsourcers for theft.

@katiecannon8186 Why, Katie? Studies show that democratic institutions are in much better shape in Europe and Canada than in the US, which is categorised as a flawed democracy as opposed to our full democracies. Our education systems are considered superior to yours, too. The problem with the trade imbalance is that US products are not that attractive to European consumers in particular. Maybe the US should make up the difference with cheaper commodities. It worked for Russia till Putin went on the warpath.

@BB1CC666 Canada will just have to close ranks with the EU, the UK and Mexico. Canada can pretend there's a unnavigable sea between it and Mexico.

Should? Retaliatory tariffs are a given. The EU for instance has consistently responded to previous US tariffs by imposing its own on the US in equal measure. It's like Murica is banging its head against a wall. It hurts back.

@sboganatham The Brits could gather along the coast with oars, paddles and cricket bats and start to row furiously towards America and, on arrival, apply for US statehood. Who am I kidding, the Brits would row every which way and stay put.

@groovy611 Instead we're looking at a full-blown trade war between the US and Europe. Interestingly, Trump chose to go to war with Canada, Mexico and China at the same time. Perhaps he should've asked Pentagon strategists if multi-front wars are prudent.

@katiecannon8186 Explain how US "neoliberalism" has weakened Europe's democratic institutions? If anything, Trumpism has inspired Europe's democratically ambivalent far right -- for now. Going forward, Trump's ultranationalism is bound to pee them off. All ultranationalists are xenophobic by nature.

@sul-v5p You're quite right, Russia is collapsing economically and Ukraine is scoring a defensive victory. Russia has already been through two similar collapses, both sparked by wars it couldn't win: WW1 and the Soviet-Afghan War. The question is, will it be the end of Russia? Three strikes and you're out, eh?

@user-vt5ln7qq4j You're slow on the uptake. What is similar about your "ameriKKKa, okay" and Russia is that both Trump and Putin (want to) believe that domestic production will make up for less imports. Russia has been at it for longer, and it has rampant inflation. What is dissimilar is that Putin blundered into a war that saddled Russia with crippling sanctions, while Trump blundered into... wacky Trumponomics.

Yeah, but on the proviso that Canada and Mexico join BICS, not BRICS. The organisation needs to excise the cancer first.

@eeery True dat. It's an inconvenient truth that the Russians are the most numerous nationality on the continent of Europe. Luckily, they keep quiet about it, too.
