The big diff was that in Hong Kong, the protesters were demanding democracy. In the US, they were attempting to overthrow democracy.

@brandoneliazar365 Right. Authoritarian regimes are ticking time bombs. It's not if but when their people start demanding their rights. If they fight it, they'll just stiffen the resolve of the people. It will never go away.

Rachel Goldberg Why is it absolutely imperative that Hong Kong, or for that matter, Taiwan or Tibet, remains part of China? Self-determination is an inalienable right. I've lived in Hong Kong both under British and Chinese rule. Politically, Kong Kong is much different from the "People's" Republic of China. Why do you think the CCP still goes on about "one country, two systems?"

@animal4359 Show mercy. It's difficult to get a proper education in the US.

True, that. Less confrontational and more organized, as in seeking foreign allies.

@rudyzk So Obama should've nuked China or something? You live in an imaginary world of Murican omnipotence. China has every right to live up to its potential. I just hope that includes democratizing.

@rudyzk No, I'm not Chinese. Why would you ask that? Paranoid much? China has enjoyed some trade privileges reserved for developing countries and it has unfairly subsidized some of its corporations. We're not entirely innocent in the latter respect either. Obviously these matters need remedying. You, on the hand, are making it appear that only US presidents have a say-so in deciding which country gets to grow next. You have a megalomaniacal worldview.

@maggieyao269 There are peaceful protests, riots and combinations thereof. You still shouldn't tar all protestors, peaceful and riotous, with the same brush.
