@doreybain Sure, when Russia cuts off the gas, the Germans will grow cold, but the Russians will grow hungry. Russia is just as dependent on the gas revenues as Germany is on the gas.

@black0ut02 The Crimean referendum was considered illegit by the world community. And Putin, by his own admission, sent in his Little Green Men to pry Crimea loose from Ukraine. That makes it an invasion.

@robertsmith5744 Most of the Balkan and old Soviet bloc countries are NATO members now. If Russia were to launch an attack against them, NATO's Article 5 would trigger a joint response by all NATO members. There would be no "one by one"; there would be a feeble attempt at "one", followed by a long stretch of wound-licking by Russia.

Nah, Turkey has supposed the decide WW1 in the Central Powers' favour, too, but that clearly didn't happen. Turkey ended up on the losing side, and quite deservedly so.
