The problem is, that sovereignty -- over Crimea -- isn't internationally recognised. Russia made a land grab and now pretends its territorial rights have been violated.

The root cause of all this is that Russia can't stomach Ukraine being friendly with anyone but Russia. Ergo, Russia has no friends.

@crazychinese7315 , we're not talking America. There's a reason why the UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly -- 100 vs. 11 -- in favour of declaring the Crimean status referendum invalid. China abstained, meaning it chose not to lend credence to the referendum either.

@crazychinese7315 The UN General Assembly directly represents all nations in the world, meaning their appointed representatives rejected the Crimean referendum. So in your assessment, China is also in America's pocket?

@crazychinese7315 You're still not getting it. This is not about America and this is not about the UN per se. It just so happens that the UN General Assembly brings together all nations on earth. If they instead gathered to vote under the banner of the League of Nations, the Star Federation or what have you, the outcome would be still the same: the international community condemns Russia's illegal land grab. Now I'm starting to believe your knowledge of geopolitics is nil. The PRC is one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council. Ergo, China can veto binding UN resolutions, which means China can get away with murder, as evidenced by Russia using its veto to prevent a resolution that would've brought the Russian occupation of Crimea to an abrupt end. Are you now suggesting the Chinese are too dumb to understand their rights? I don't know if you live in China, but I could imagine the Chinese authorities inviting you for a round of re-education.

Ukraine was a Russian puppet under Yanukovych. I bet you had no problem with that. How about Ukraine liaising with whoever it sees fit? The trouble is, Russia -- like a intensely jealous husband -- can't stomach Ukraine being on friendly terms with anyone but Russia. When preparing to sign the association agreement with Ukraine, the EU fully expected Ukraine to stay on close terms with Russia, but then Putin had a jealous fit, ordered Yanukovych to nix the EU deal, and the rest is, as we say, history. And so was Yanukovych, as the Ukrainians rose up and sent him packing to Russia, where Putin's boy now lives as a naturalised Russian citizen. Canada is a big trading partner of the US, yet Canada also has a far-reaching free trade agreement with the EU. Should the US annex Newfoundland or something?

@ronom8856 Come off it, you don't even convince yourself. Yanukovych supposedly had a change of heart regarding the EU Association Agreement, suddenly throwing his weight behind a similar but exclusive agreement with Russia's shadow-EU, the Eurasian Economic Union. Putin clearly overplayed his hand there, because Euromaidan happened and his lapdog, Yanukovych, got the short end of the stick. Putin had to do something dramatic -- annex Crimea -- so as not to appear a cuckold in front of his fanboys. Putin went out of his way to offer the ousted Yanukovych sanctuary, even fast-tracking Yanukovych's application for Russian citizenship. If all this doesn't make him Putin's lapdog, I don't know what does.

@ronom8856 I suppose you want f**k the UN, too? Crimea officially chose to remain with Ukraine after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and this with Russia's blessing. That said, the Crimeans could've pursued their claims for incorporation into Russia though the UN, only they didn't. Instead, a foreign entity -- Russia -- forced the issue, violating all previous agreements pertaining to Russia and Ukraine respecting one another's territorial integrity, in addition to the UN Charter, which explicitly forbids redrawing borders without mutual consent. Not surprisingly, the UN General Assembly deemed the staged Crimean referendum illegal. So Crimea remains Ukrainian. Your conspiracy theory about the US annexing Ukraine is just that, a conspiracy theory, and a very wild one at that. I see you gave up on trying to argue that Yanukovych wasn't a Kremlin puppet, which he very clearly was.
