Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "How Russia has replaced Western brands | Business Beyond" video.
Internationally recognised and accepted? Hogwash. They'll have to rebrand, and without the brand recognition, they'll have to start from scratch. With saturated markets, failure is a foregone conclusion.

@s9ka972 It depends on the product in question. These countries can't freely re-export sanctioned goods to Russia either, or the companies in question risk being sanctioned themselves. It also applies to intellectual property. Bigger companies quietly oblige.

@vervetech9395 As I tried to explain, Western franchises -- the real thing -- have already saturated these "friendly" markets, making it an uphill struggle for the Russians to gain a foothold. Also, unlike Russia, these countries do recognise Western IP, so the Russian brands can't just copy established trademarks. A proper rebrand is necessary, in other words.

@kinngrimm It's not the countries, but their companies that break sanctions and end up being sanctioned themselves. Huawei could tell us a thing or two about how detrimental that is to business.
6
@mohamedhussein4124 Oh, sanctions are working as well as can be expected. Russian businesses are going bankrupt left, right and centre. Also, why is Putin's crowd making such a fuss about them if they don't matter?

@alexrz4196 Actually, all the original BRICS countries are in G20. Plenty of photo ops there.
4
@alexrz4196 In other words, it's now official that Russia will continue as a semi-colony of China. It's poetic justice, since China effectively became a semi-colony in the 19th century, with Russia being one of the colonial powers that ruled over China.

You're naive to think we're naive. It has happened oh-so many times, and in the West, too. Franchisees exit franchises all the time.

@hakinadedeji Aw, you're getting offensive. It's clear sign of losing your patience -- and the argument. I have no special love for Western brands, but this news clip happens to be about Western franchises that have exited the Russian market. In fact, I frequent Jollibee (Philippines), MOS Burger (Japan) and Komala's (India) whenever I'm in Singapore.

@alexrz4196 You should ask the BRICS head honchos why they are so keen to have their pictures taken.
2
@alexrz4196 Nice piece of circular reasoning on your part. I'm wasting my time here. Over and out.

@jackuzi8252 It's irrelevant when the mobile networks in Russia start breaking down. The big three, Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia, have all but stopped network equipment sales to Russia.
1
@ibrahimtouman2279 Don't live in your little fantasies. Huawei can't sell its network equipment in Russia, not because of the sanctions imposed directly on Huawei by the US, but because of the sanctions imposed on Russia by the US and the EU. If you knew the mobile telecoms industry, you'd know that jointly, Qualcomm, Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei hold the bulk of the patents. If Huawei were to supply sanctioned technology to Russia, it would lose its worldwide business altogether. Unlike the Russians, the Chinese are shrewd businessmen.
1
@jackuzi8252 It doesn't work that way with telco-grade network equipment. You must be referring to cheapie home/office networking kit, your TP-Links and some such.

Sure thing, Russia's name is mud.
1
@alexrz4196 It figures, you can't even spell "circular *reasoning". Go get yourself an education.

@fabrikator-generalakhilley6896 Even unpatriotic companies dread ending up on a sanctions list. The smallish Russian market isn't the moneyspinner you think it is.
