  2. You should find-replace 'Russia' with 'Putin' in your comment and there would be a semblance of truth in it. Russia is better off without Putin, and deep down, the Russians know. It's just that they're clueless as to how to pick a better leader.

  4.  @harmless6813  The EU's defence pact is an empty letter. There were initial hopes in Sweden and Finland that it would amount to something, but when push came to shove (read: Russia illegally invaded Ukraine), they quickly applied for NATO membership.

  10. Your claim about Timmermans' unpopularity is dubious at best. He and his party won the European parliamentary election of 2019 in a landslide. The green shift is certainly the way to go (together with renewed investment in nuclear energy) -- if not because of global warming, then to thwart Russia's attempts to hold Europe hostage over energy. The same goes for supporting Ukraine -- shifting borders with military might is intolerable. You seem the type that's very quick to give in under pressure. Morals aren't keeping your defeatism back.

  14. I think Timmermans bade farewell to Dutch politics when he became a candidate for the EP and, eventually, commission vice president. He won't look back with fondness, I'm afraid.
