Not really. Western countries are committed to the WHO's COVAX programme, which pretty much rules out asking for favours in return, since all the dealings are out in the open.

Pew Research does and they're reporting a sharp rise in unfavourable views of China. The same goes for Xi's unpopularity, which is at an all-time high. At any rate, China is suffering a PR disaster.

No, we've got scruples.

@queeniewang2246 Sure thing, but China's contribution is subpar. Why not go all the way and concentrate on COVAX alone? That would make short shrift of accusations that China is engaging in vaccine diplomacy.

@stevenk1468 No, I don't see any issues with efficiency. It makes perfect sense to have a impartial party decide who gets how many based on need rather than friendship potential.

@stevenk1468 What you're suggesting is that China coordinate their vaccine distribution with COVAX. Fine, but how's that different from letting COVAX coordinate the whole caboodle? It's not like the WHO is micromanaging distribution and doing the vaccinations themselves. They're relying on whatever resources are available nationally.

@stevenk1468 Have you understood what "vaccine diplomacy" means? When helping others, demanding something in return would leave a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe you have better mouthwash.

But we do. You're just poorly informed.

@manishgrg9585 Glad you asked. The WHO. Read up on the COVAX programme. We're also paying for Indian-made vaccines.
1
@manishgrg9585 Did you have a point? The WHO isn't betting on just one horse.

@tonygai9181 What's that supposed to mean?
