  2. If anything, Vance sealed the CDU/CSU's electoral victory. The US is now widely seen as a wayward ally that is turning against Germany and Europe as a whole. Vance's endorsement for the AfD will have an adverse effect on the far right's fortunes.

  3. There's no good news for AfD here, long-term. Merz is co-opting AfD policies with regard to migration, and that will take the wind out of AfD's sail. We've seen it happen to the Greens and their environmental agenda.
