Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "EU countries to resume AstraZeneca vaccinations | DW News" video.
I thought the UK left for sovereignty reasons. Ironically, this is about EU members exercising their sovereign right to suspend AZ vaccinations when possible serious side-effects come to light that warrant further investigation. In contrast, the EU has consistently advised them that the AZ vaccine is safe. You should love sovereignty with all your heart -- not just when it suits your anti-EU rhetoric.

So the EU's medical authority deemed the AstraZeneca vaccine safe and reasserted that standpoint after concerns had been voiced all over the world. What exactly is your problem with that?

@Gary-bz1rf The EU has pooled vaccine sourcing. The rest is up to the member countries. Only last year, US states notoriously bid against one another for PPE and ventilators, unnecessarily driving up prices. In the light of that, centralised sourcing makes perfect sense. In a move that raised eyebrows throughout the developed world (although we understood your extreme desperation), the UK resorted to emergency approval for the vaccines, which allowed you to be first in line for deliveries. Unlike the EU -- or EU countries since you can't tell the difference -- the UK wasn't as much affected by production ramp-up problems. EU or no EU, these delivery problems would've plagued us -- just like they're plaguing you now. The UK took a risk and the gamble paid off -- sort of. However, the race isn't over yet. I'm seeing the same predictions -- July 2021 -- for having adults vaccinated both in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. The French are even talking about a June timeframe.
