It's better than floods, that's for sure.

@dannybuoy138 The Finns especially know that you should never trust Russia, so they've never relied on Russian natgas, for instance. The Swedes have somehow retained their instincts, too. They did, however, neglect their defence, which means they had less choice in joining NATO now that Russia has once again shown itself in its true colours.

The Scandinavian countries all do much better than Germany in renewable energy. And they didn't forswear nuclear energy.
2
Exactly. Global warming slows the Gulf stream, which keeps Scandinavia warm. Hint: don't flaunt your ignorance.

The Nordics aren't drama queens like you. Besides, electricity prices aren't quite that high, and the Nordics haven't just discovered renewable energy, district heating, heat pumps and district heating. Cool heads prevail in cool climes.

@760HorsePower Nordic cities are ultra-modern by your standards. If you travel eastward from Finland, the contrast is staggering. A timewarp doesn't begin to describe it. It gets slightly better towards Saint Petersburg, but not by much. No wonder Russians try to make a beeline for the west. Vice versa, nuh-uh, just not happening.
1
@760HorsePower That's a load of crock. Sure, there are modern buildings in Moscow and Saint Petersburg ("Petersborough"?), but so are there in Manila and Jakarta. You comparing Europe -- and Scandinavia in particular -- to the US goes to show how little you know. You don't get around much, do you?
1
And it is. Global warming slows down the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream goes a long way in keeping termperatures bearable in Scandinavia. That's should sparked off some brain activity, but can you confirm?

Up north, people favour hybrids. Best of both worlds.

@rowaystarco It's not that EVs don't work in extreme cold. I know that from personal experience. Charging becomes an issue, however, especially with battery capacity suffering because of the extreme cold. All's well if you commute a few klicks to and from work, but if it's 100 klicks to the nearest post office, a hybrid suddenly become a very attractive proposition.
1
@rowaystarco Let's put it this way: if a bridge collapses in northern Norway, let's say the Badderen bridge in Finnmark, and people need to make a detour to get to the other side. 600km it was, via Finland, right?

@wokeaf1337 The worst affected areas don't see much snowfall, so that's a poor excuse. Besides, snow melts and then the flooding starts.
1
@wokeaf1337 No it doesn't. The ground underneath the melting snow is still frozen, so it doesn't absorb water. You don't appear to know what you're talking about.

@souravjaiswal-jr4bj Not true. In the Nordic countries, where sound judgement is more called for than in less forbidding climates, even the Greens have had a change of heart with regard to nuclear energy. They hate fossil fuels now.
1
Yeah, we get it, you're Murican. Murica is the climate deniers' paradise, after all.

@nenasiek The warming part refers to averages. I'm sure the concept came up when you were in school.
