Aren't you being a drama queen? NATO has tactical nuclear weapons in six member states, Belgium, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Turkey. In addition, the UK and France both have sub-launched ballistic missiles. None of these countries borders Russia. In contrast, Russia has ballistic nuclear missiles in Kaliningrad, which does border two NATO countries, Poland and Lithuania.

@rf5595 NATO isn't invading Russia -- that's just a wet dream of yours. The sad truth is that no one wants a piece of Russia. The key difference here is that NATO expands by popular consensus. Russia, by force.

@rf5595 I'm not an apologist for US military adventurism -- admittedly, it's a bad habit the Americans can't seem to shake. But I thought this was about NATO? But since we're on the topic, I don't see how Russia is much different from the US. The Americans had their ill-advised Iraq War, but Russian troops are uninvited guests in a number of sovereign countries, too. Ukraine is a very obvious example, but Georgia and Moldova, too, have to suffer Russian occupiers on their soil. And if sending Russian regulars is too obvious, Wagner Group will do the honours, like in Syria and Libya. You keep forgetting that world + dog aren't buying Russia's annexation of Crimea. Also, it's mighty unfair on the Crimeans themselves. It doesn't matter if they identify as Russians or not, they deserve better than to be condemned to eternal international isolation. All because a cuckolded Putin had to act out against Ukraine.

@rf5595 You're wrong -- there's very much ambiguity around the Crimean status referendum. The UN General Assembly couldn't have been clearer in rejecting it. The US couldn't possibly have coerced 100 sovereign states to vote the way they did. Sorry, I have no time for your amateurish opinion pieces, which are completely devoid of facts. If you have any, present them. Otherwise you're just flapping your gums.

@rf5595 Your imagination is playing tricks on you. NATO has military installations in Belgium, Netherlands, USA, Norway, Poland, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Hungary. In case you failed geography, those are NATO member countries and none of them is in the Middle East.

@rf5595 Those facts -- if indeed they are true -- are irrelevant. As far as international law is concerned, Russia did an illegal land grab. Russia is suffering the consequences in the form of sanctions, but the Crimeans are completely isolated from the outside world, as if they no longer exist. As I already wrote, they should get another vote on the matter, if only to confirm the existing result, but this time as part of a UN-supervised referendum. No more isolation. Try to get that through your thick skull.
