  2. Developing countries have a lot of untapped potential, developed countries not so much anymore. It's only natural that growth will plateau. Besides, China has been banking on continued brisk growth. A sudden slowdown will inevitable bankrupt ambitious companies that have overextended themselves. In their wake, even healthier companies will fail. Evergrande's panicky suppliers are a case in point.

  4. Watch more DW videos. Germany is experiencing a dip because of an ill-fated energy policy. In these circumstances, Germany could do worse than accelerating its green shift -- which is the only way forward anyhow.
