  2. For the future of the whole of China, Carrie Lam needs to resign. And then Hong Kong needs real democracy. Beijing can try to fight it, but it's a losing battle. The mainland won't be immune either.

Despite your (supposed?) credentials, you're suspiciously unaware of the fact that the protesters represent a cross-section of society. Dismissing them as idle youths just doesn't fly, so you might as well drop the pretense.

  4. Xi had better rethink his stance towards democracy. Maybe he, or maybe his successor, will come to the only logical conclusion: if you can't beat them, join them.
