  1. Easy. CDU/CSU are centre-right. SDP is centre-left. As for the far left, there's a myriad of Stalinist, Trotskyist, Marxist-Leninist and anarchistic parties that can be rightfully describes as far-left, but they have no seats in the Bundestag, nor anywhere else for that matter. If they didn't take themselves so seriously, I would describe them as joke parties.

  4.  @jarnomon1  Grundgesetz translates to constitution. Constitutions are part and parcel of every free society, but Americans think it's a manifestation of American exceptionalism.
