@lolipopcrashIt sounds literally unbelievable. Afghanistan can't miraculously conjure up the infrastructure needed to exploit its natural riches. Chinese companies hold the mining concessions, and they, too, have been unable to exploit them. Unlike Russia, China isn't strapped for cash, but the security situation has made mining on an industrial scale impossible. Finally, you may live on copium, but the Afghans can't live on natural gas alone. Afghanistan needs foreign currency, not copium.

@rouz0 That's a non-argument. Chinese companies held mining concessions in Afghanistan long before the Taliban regained power, yet all the while, they managed to achieve next to nothing. China wasn't nor is now targeted by Western sanctions, so they are no excuses. Diplomacy and compromise don't help when the security situation in Afghanistan remains what it is.

@tamjansan1154 The West tricked Afghanistan? The post-Taliban Karzai government awarded the bulk of Afghanistan's oil and mining concessions to Chinese companies. It seems China tricked Afghanistan, since China has almost entirely failed to exploit them.
