It's also a good reminder of how dependent China is on exports. The CCP, which rules with the tacit approval of the Chinese middle class, will be even in more trouble than they are already on account of mishandling the initial nCoV outbreak.

@vjbd2757 Fine? Will you fork out $2,000 for an iPhone that's made in the USA?

Kayla Nguyen But the bulk of Android phones are made in China, too. Chinese smartphone brands -- including Motorola and Blackberry -- are dominating the market and they couldn't care less about Trump's nationalist policies.

Kayla Nguyen China is just experiencing a dip. When they recover, they'll kill off the new competitors just as quickly as they sprang up. All this reminds me of 5G. When Trump started making Huawei's life difficult, he didn't realise America couldn't produce its own 5G infrastructure.

Kayla Nguyen Whatever, but Huawei is by no means a monopoly. They have competitors in 5G, just not American ones.

Steve Slade Stevie, Stevie. You're not the observant type, are you? In my opening post, I clearly expressed how vulnerable the Chinese export-driven economy is when exports -- for some reason or another -- grind to a halt. Not only that, I noted that this is a double whammy for the CCP, which mismanaged the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Xi Jinping and his cohorts must be squirming, because their social contract with the Chinese people is crumbling. I understand you're offended by my observations that the US economy is in a vulnerable position, too. I gave some examples why there are no quick fixes either. Instead of you trying to prove me wrong, you start whining about me being a Chinese troll. Trolls cut and run when confronted. Now prove that you aren't one.

Kayla Nguyen Huawei is big everywhere and the UK is no exception. In fact, they're so big that Boris Johnson just resisted US demands to prevent them from selling 5G networks in the UK. BoJo cleverly highlighted the fact that the Americans have no alternatives to offer -- none of their own, at least. I suppose it has finally sunk in, because US Attorney General William Barr has been advocating that the US buy controlling stakes in Ericsson and Nokia, Huawei's biggest non-Chinese competitors. 5G is an evolution, and not revolution. Consumers won't notice much, but machines will be the happier for it. Where Chinese driverless cars keep their distance, American ones might crash into one another.
