  2.  @Legiion513  Yes, we also saw how the US "wanted" to quit Vietnam to spare yourselves an ignominious defeat. And it still ended in tears, just like Afghanistan. You're right, military adventurism isn't Europe's thing. It isn't yours either, but you never learn.

  3.  @Legiion513  Europeans? That would be the French. Maybe as a Yank, you can't wrap your head around the fact that Europe is a sum of a great many parts. Our part never sullied its hands in colonialism. You, regrettably, did. But you're right about Murica, as a nation, always overestimating its stamina to wage war. Hence we call it military adventurism. Time and again, you bite off more than you can chew. Oh, we're not dependent on Russia for energy. Our power plants are multi-fuel; if natural gas cannot be had, we switch to other fuels. Natural gas has been losing out to biomass anyway, so the Russians are only hurting themselves.

Moreover, rather than colonising others, we endured colonialisation ourselves, but you won't hear us moaning about it. Just out of interest, how do you deal with the negative connotations of your colonial past? For you, it's not just guilt by association. The atrocities committed by the US in the Philippines (concentration camps, really?) are a good case in point. The Taliban weren't onto anything new. They simply copied the Vietnamese. Just like the Vietnamese, they bided their time, confident that you'd lose patience before they did. They say that even a donkey doesn't hit the same stone twice. Yet you did. As it happens, we top the USA in just about any social and human development index. If anyone should feel bitter, it's you.

  5. ​ @Legiion513  In your shoes I wouldn't get too critical of others with regard to neo-colonialism -- unless you want to fend off accusations of hypocrisy, that is. Likewise, the few colonial powers in Europe eventually granted their former colonies independence. Some willingly, others not so. I suppose you belong in the second category rather than the first. The Philippine-American War alone claimed a million lives. Oh, but we are capable of defending ourselves. My birthplace is the other capital of an European belligerent in WW2 that managed to stave off occupation. A good number of my relatives paid the ultimate price in doing so. Myself, I have served in the military, and so have all my male relatives. How about you, or are you just a YouTube warrior?

  6. Putin is digging a grave for Russia. He's alienating his customers, who're increasingly switching to renewable energy anyway. Despite Putin's repetitive assurances, Russia keeps failing to diversify its economy and create other revenue streams than those from oil and gas. It's a recipe for a economic disaster.
