@cobrajeff96 Er, being a republic simply means there's no monarch as the (titular) head of state. Having a constitution is perfectly compatible with both monarchies and republics, and none of the above is incompatible being a democracy as well. You're peddling a tired old Americanism.

There were constitutions and republics well before Columbus stumbled upon your precious Murica. In fact, the ancient Greeks and Romans were at it as early as 350 BC. @mweskamppp Theirs is a "flawed democracy" according to the index. Their reclassification from "full democracy" coincided with Trump becoming president. Interestingly, Trump was seen as a symptom rather than the cause. The real cause, the public's loss of confidence in democratic institutions, reportedly paved the way for Trump. Let's see how much they'll drop when the democracy index is updated, because I bet that this time, Trump has had a causal effect.
