@shenjiejason8350 Like Western nations? Haven't you heard of Evergrande? You don't need to go abroad for examples of ghost cities, and you don't even need Olympics.

@shenjiejason8350 No, it's an example of failed economic management by the CCP. Sure, unbridled capitalism can mess up any country. That's why developed countries have extensive checks and balances in place. China is still underdeveloped in that respect.

But what you fail to appreciate is the extent to which the Chinese go. It would be economically unfeasible to do the same elsewhere, but in the PRC, money is no object if it glorifies the CCP.

@shenjiejason8350 Did someone put a gun to the CCP's head and force it to adopt a home-spun version of capitalism that led to Evergrande overextending itself? You seem to think that capitalism is somehow a holy doctrine to us, just like Communism was -- and partly still is -- to you. If I could choose, I would have China to adopt democracy first and then see about the economic model that is best suited for the country.

@hypoyt0015 Are you having a crack at English? Keep trying, maybe you'll make yourself understood one day.

@RamMohammadJosephKaur *Here's. I'm so jealous of you wumaos. You get 50 cents.

You may want to work on your sense of proportion. The Canadians add snow in order to make up for natural fluctuations in snowfall. Here, the Chinese don't have any to begin with.

@SFPhilo I fail to understand the relevance of your comment.

@shenjiejason8350 I've heard the story before, that democracy is an American ploy. Be that as it may, democracy does remain an existential threat -- a potent poison, if you will -- to authoritarian regimes. Hong Kong, Belarus and now Kazakhstan... there's no immunity to it. My take is that the CCP feels that the mainland Chinese as a people can't be trusted to decide about their own affairs. Can you blame them? It's a matter of self-preservation.

@jw7518 It's irrelevant what the Brits did or didn't do in Hong Kong before 1997. They are gone, for good. Or are you trying to prove that China sucks less? Even so, China still sucks.
3
@jw7518 You should pose your question to a Brit. As it happens, I'm twice over in the top 10 of the Democracy Index by virtue of my multiple nationalities. The Brits don't quite make the grade (but don't get me started about China's piss-poor ranking). I still don't understand your argument. Why should the Hongkongers be denied democracy because they didn't enjoy it in colonial times either? By that logic all former colonies should endure authoritarian rule. Say, perhaps you could report back to the CCP propagandists that this no-democracy-in-HK-under-British-rule-either argument has insufficient potency and is self-damaging to boot.

@tiffanywong7045 Be that as it may, the future is not beholden to the past. The Hongkongers should be able to choose their own path.

@geshi7121 How did you come to such a conclusion? I was speaking in favour of checks and balances and pointing out how the CCP failed China by not imposing a debt ceiling in time. You need to pay better attention.
1
@geshi7121 So now you agree that the CCP is a johnny-come-lately in imposing debt ceilings. Got ya.
1
@geshi7121 Another utterly weird conclusion. I'm starting to think you're suffering from multiple personality disorder.

@1166zhang Can you perceive shades of grey?
