Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "Ukraine-Russia war: Where does Southeast Asia stand? | DW News" video.
So you're saying Asians don't care when a human tragedy unfolds elsewhere, because it doesn't immediately concern you? Principles be damned, pragmatism rules, eh?

Maybe you can enlighten us about Ukraine's role in the colonisation of SEA. Come on, don't be shy now.

quotetheraven90 Judging from what appears to be your year of birth, you may not have consciously lived through it, but I distinctly remember how Europeans were at odds over the Iraq War. Look up "freedom fries".

Does Asia care about Congo?

@fujihita2500 Ukraine can trace its national identity back to the 9th century. There's nothing to suggest that Ukraine has played a role in colonising Southeast Asia. Yet, for some reason, you think this is a payback moment. Since we're doing guilt by association -- or should I say guilt by geographical proximity -- can I hold you responsible for Pol Pot's heinous crimes against humanity? How about the Nanking Massacre? Russia is an Asian power, too. It should concern you if someone in your region turns rogue. Next, you may be on the receiving end.

@esense9602 I have no idea idea what you're yelping about.

@fujihita2500 OK, so what we're witnessing here is some form of cultural appropriation or neo-colonial mansplaining. Even though you're an outsider, you pretend to know best how the Asians should react to the war in Ukraine. You're advocating indifference, which you feel is justified in the light of past European colonisation of SEA -- but then you go on to confirm that Ukraine had no part in it. One comes across many weirdos in YouTube comment sections, but you take the cake.

So by all means, please continue to be subservient to foreign powers. Colonialism enjoyed a long run in SEA, so why wouldn't neo-colonialism thrive there as well? One master is as good as another, eh?

@vuvuvu6291 You're a slave all right. I hope you find a new master.

@aslampervez2294 Neither did Russia or China. You may ask yourself why.
1
@aslampervez2294 Ah, your brain isn't working. I'll help. Russia and China thought the same as we did. The circumstantial evidence on Iraqi WMDs wasn't compelling enough to start a war, but no one had a problem with ridding the world of Saddam Hussein. In other words, those that disagreed, disagreed on principle only. The same applied to Slobodan Milosevic and Muammar Gaddafi. Anything else I can help you with or do you think you can kick-start your brain?

@themsky8905 What didn't we do that you did? You probably aren't into details, but there's a vast difference Europe and Murica in foreign policy vis-à-vis Israel. We condemn, they veto.
1
@themsky8905 I don't know if you were still a tot when it happened, but there was a major rift in NATO over the Iraq War. Donald Rumsfeld dubbed us "Old Europeans" because we flat-out refused to go to war over non-existent WMDs. Afghanistan was UN policy. China and Russia were very supportive of the op. Educate yourself.

@fujihita2500 I am permanent resident of Singapore, you strangest of strange weirdos. Singapore is on "my" side.
1
@NarutoUzumaki-jw4kw I've always found whataboutism a childish cop-out, but I see you hold the old Soviet tactic in high regard. For what it's worth, I distinctly remember us being dead-set against invading Iraq. It didn't come to sanctions, but there were consumer boycotts to and fro. But I don't recall any UNSC draft resolutions sponsored by Russia and China that sought to condemn the Iraq War. Eastern hypocrisy?
1
@Bakmietjaplaku Next time, when India brings up its bid for permanent membership of the UNSC again, remind us that you don't care about wars unless they're on your doorstep.
1
@PhoenlxA I'm sure we'd be just as concerned if China were to do a Russia on Taiwan -- which they probably won't, not after Putin's plan for Ukraine backfired.
1
@selcukcilek555 I think you hit the wrong reply button. Or you can't follow a conversation.

@selcukcilek555 OK, YouTube n00b.

@GiaBao-gr2zd How does the EU react to Syria, Palestine, *Afghanistan, etc.? You tell me, since you seem to know exactly.
1
@GiaBao-gr2zd Post-WW2 Germany has traditionally exercised restraint in matters relating to foreign policy and foreign military deployments. Ordinary Germans may grumble, but all the same they've kept voting for politicians who favour such restraint. France, on the other hand, is practically the opposite, also because the French electorate favours more assertive policies. Is it democracy you're marvelling at?
