  1. No worries, Balikbayan are considered heroes both at home and abroad. Having worked in the Philippines, I taught my late father, who was in a nursing home, some of the little Tagalog I know. He always greeted and thanked the Filipino staff in Tagalog.

  2.  @andia968  And a great partnership it will prove. There are a great many Americans with Vietnamese ethnicity, who've done very well for themselves. They'll be in good position to help turn Vietnam into an economic powerhouse.

  4.  @andia968  Vietnam calls itself a socialist-oriented market economy. They've basically copied the economic model from China. Incidentally, it's freer than that of China, especially after Xi's recent clampdown. There's something to be said for increased trade leading to political change, although the authoritarian regime may panic, like in China's case, and slip back to old habits. Vietnam may actually pull it off.
