@drfelren We're seeing 'fleets in being'. The US will not intervene in this conflict. Intervention would be conceivable if there's a major escalation involving state actors like Iran and Syria, but not otherwise. Diplomacy solves conflicts, not US Marines.

@drfelren If you want to speak of real power, that's the power of money. The US could put a stop to the Israeli-Palestine conflict by tying its lavish aid to Israel to progress in the two-state peace talks. The EU could do the same with regard to the Palestinians, who by and large survive on aid from the EU countries. Like I suggested earlier, no amount of sailing the Israeli coast back and forth is going to intimidate the Hamas jihadists. They're convinced they'll get their 72 virgins no matter whether it's an American or an Israeli that fires the fatal shot.

Don't be silly. The EU is and will remain a supranational union, which may be hard to fathom for many, because there's nothing else like it. The EU doesn't have an army, as doesn't NATO. It's all about individual countries pooling their defence capabilities. Like NATO pooling its forces, but not inviting non-EU members to the party.

@IMGreg.. Let's not ignore the gorilla in the room. We've seen very little action from the US in ending this conflict during its 75-year span. The supreme irony is that the US could do so in a jiffy, but chooses not to. Since the EU doesn't prop up Israel financially, the EU lacks the leverage. Since the US lavishes money on Israel, it has the leverage.
