@madselmvig1457 The irony is that those pro-Erdogan Turkish expatriates don't suffer the consequences of Turkey's chronically bad economy. They can just lap up Erdogan's populism without having to endure the foul aftertaste. My friend, a retired store owner, is happy to live back in Turkey. His generous Dutch pension and the low cost of living are a match made in heaven. He must be quietly thanking Erdogan every single day.

Sure. When you're clueless, rely on your invisible sky friend.

I've got bad news for you. The Turkish lira is weak by any parameter.

You'll have to wait till we're finished laughing. It may take a while.

@ehsandar5753 What would be the reason for our sorrow? Dirt-cheap holidays in Turkey? Trying to exchange a few left-over Turkish bank notes, and finding out they're as valuable as toilet paper?

He's had twenty years, and he's run Turkey into the ground economically. You want to him to prove his incompetence for a little while longer?

@tommygreek340 Mastermind? Conspiracy theorist detected.

@tommygreek340 Sure. Every day, we plot evil schemes to make you poorer still.

In a way, yes, Putin can help Erdogan. When Russia announces another round of mobilisation, Turkish resorts will fill up nicely. The guests won't be in a hurry to leave either.

Erdogan still needs his new and upgraded F-16s and he knows he won't get any from the USA unless he relents on Sweden's NATO bid. Which he will, soon enough. In summary, nothing has changed dramatically for the poorer. Oh yes, and Turkey is still growing poorer.

What's the silver lining here then?
1
@orcashorts5813 The UK and Germany had suffered paper cuts compared to Turkey spurting arterial blood all over the place.
1
@alexsilent5603 The notorious Putin troll chimes in with another feeble attempt at whataboutism. Quelle surprise.
1
More inflation on account of higher energy prices would be the death of Turkey. No one in the West is so callous.
1
@RUTHLESSambition5 What's there to see about France, UK and Europe? Like one half of Turkey, Europe prefers anyone but Erdogan.

"Tis but a scratch."
1
That's exactly why Erdogan's lowering of interest rates is so asinine.
1
They should do the hand gesture with their left hand so that there's no confusion as to who the losers are.

I think they're predicting the inevitable political demise of Erdogan. Turkey will survive, and with proper leadership, thrive. Knowing how industrious and business-savvy the Turks are, it's quite a feat to ruin the economy, but Erdogan succeeded.

It's Schadenfreude, actually. A guilty pleasure, I'm sure, but there's an extenuating circumstance here in that the Schaden is very much self-inflicted. If someone ties his own shoe laces together and then falls flat on his face, it's only human to laugh.
