  9. Oh, I fully expect Russia to sign a peace treaty with Ukraine that is similar to the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, which sealed Russia's defeat in WW1 -- and to WW1 loser Germany, that is. Also, it bears reminding that Germany, too, was still deep inside enemy territory -- France -- when its will to fight collapsed, just as Russia's had a year earlier, in 1917. History sometimes does repeats itself. Russia should cut its losses already, but with a dictator in charge, that's problematic. I doubt Putin will ultimately suffer defenestration, but I'm sure it will be something equally fatal.

  10. Russia can like it or lump it when NATO moves next door. The same applies to CSTO and NATO, although I don't see any takers for CSTO. Leavers, I do see. Treaty or no treaty, Russia can't take care of its friends.

  12. Nah, Russia is slowly but surely nearing the end of its tether. What keeps Putin going is that peace will prove such a hangover for Russia that even the apathetic Russians will finally start to protest. And Putin, if he's quick on his feet, will do an Assad on Russia. Otherwise it's a long drop and a sudden stop.

  18. Ukraine made it clear from the onset that it wasn't in Kursk for the Lebensraum, unlike Russia in the territories that it "annexed" from Ukraine. With nothing to lose, Kursk is ideal for defence in depth, with Russia reducing its own territory to a moon landscape and losing troops in far greater numbers.

  20.  @valkrsk  Russia's military aviation is hamstrung by lack of air superiority and Russia's superiority in artillery is diminishing. Also, it's a well-known fact that the attacker incurs more losses than a well dug-in defender. Neutral sources report heavy Russian and North Korean casualties in Kursk. We're not in the habit of lying to ourselves -- that's your prerogative.
