  1. It's eerie, isn't it. First, there was the Vietnam War. The Soviet Union had its Vietnam War moment in the Soviet-Afghan War. Then there was the 20-year War in Afghanistan, which ended with the Taliban back in charge. Now Putin's Russia is experiencing a War in Afghanistan moment of its own, this time in Syria. It's like Russia is copying US military misfortunes as a matter of course. Or vice versa.
