@Jocky8807 It's interesting to note that when the NATO-led ISAF mission was still ongoing in Afghanistan, Karzai's government awarded the bulk of mining concessions to Chinese companies. It doesn't gel with your conspiracy theories, I'm afraid.

@QwertAsdfg-ih1ow Russia can huff and puff about NATO expansion, but at the end of the day, it has to respect the decision of sovereign nations to strike alliances as they see fit, without having to seek Russia's approval -- or anyone else's for that matter. Funny that you think "America" is expanding NATO. It's the countries themselves that willingly join up. Didn't you notice how once fiercely-independent Finland and Sweden quickly joined NATO with a landslide of popular support? Your beloved Putin and his belligerence are pushing Russia's neighbours into NATO, no-one else.

@QwertAsdfg-ih1ow Exerting influence and invading are two different things. The former is called diplomacy and the latter is called military aggression. Try to guess which one is in breach of the UN Charter. What makes you think we supported Israel's annexation of the Golan? At the UN, we've consistently voted against all territorial encroachment by Israel. Myself, I served with UNIFIL, monitoring Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon. For your info, referendums are called when deciding about contentious issues. There was nothing contentious about Finland and Sweden joining NATO. In Finland, the 5 out of the measly 7 MPs that opposed NATO membership lost their seats in a subsequent election. It seems popular support exceeded even the overwhelming support for NATO in parliament.

@blackcatdungeonmastersfami5311 Ukraine was entirely within its rights to attack armed rebels in Donetsk. The OSCE monitors didn't report any civilians being targeted. I suppose DW is loath to report Russian lies.

@hajjimubarak Yanukovich fled to be with his puppet master in Russia. He literally vacated his seat. Even members of his own party voted in favour of his ousting, for flouting his presidential duties. Putin yanked his strings too hard. Tell me more about these Western invasions. I consider myself a Westerner, but we've never taken part in any invasions.

@blackcatdungeonmastersfami5311 Russia never intended to implement Minsk II itself. The Minsk agreements were dead on arrival. Serbia was conducting genocide in Kosovo. I saw the evidence myself while with KFOR. In Donbas, no such thing transpired. Even Russian OSCE monitors reluctantly had to admit to that.

@QwertAsdfg-ih1ow Really now. You should read the UN Charter carefully. It does not forbid diplomacy. Territorial expansion by use of force is, however, a definite no-no. Russia ought to be kicked out of the UNSC for that. Again, no NATO referendums in Sweden and Finland, because they would've proven exercises in futility. Overwhelming popular support, just like overwhelming support in parliament by duly elected representatives of the people, left nothing to the imagination in either country. In Finland, after the deed was done, several candidates ran for parliament on a "pacifist" anti-NATO platform, but without fail, they went unelected. You're grossly generalising. The USA may have recognised the Golan Heights as Israeli territory, but it certainly doesn't apply to your indistinct "the West" or even NATO as a whole. Norway, a founding member of NATO, just recognised Palestine, much to the chagrin of Israel and the USA. NATO is a defensive military alliance, not a instrument for "Western" foreign policy.

@BojanPeric-kq9et Unbeknown to everyone but you and you alone, has NATO placed nuclear weapons in Ukraine? As a matter of fact, NATO's nuclear weapons have stayed put since the Cold War ended. Meanwhile, Russia has placed nukes in Kaliningrad and Belarus. By your logic, should NATO invade Belarus? You need to ask your Kremlin handlers for new and better material.
