@princejayntinda9348 You're advocating protectionism and effectively isolationism, too. You're perhaps forgetting that tariffs always trigger counter-tariffs. It's like the OP insinuated, Trump might as well have increased sales taxes for Americans.

@danielpeter960 You'll be pleased to know that Airbus already manufactures airliners -- A220s -- in Quebec. Some parts are made in Belfast, which means transatlantic manufacturing is already in place. You probably know this, but Trump effectively tried to kill off Canada's Bombardier by imposing a 1000% tax on the latter's CSeries airliners. Airbus snapped up Bombardier and ended up with a bestseller in the renamed A220. Trump did bring home the bacon in the form of a second A220 final assembly line in Alabama, but that's poor consolation. It doesn't make up for Boeing's loss in market share. Obviously, Murica scored another own goal with the 737 MAX debacle. I guess this was an episode where Trump supporters didn't have to be concerned about tiring of too much winning.

@jakenbake9878 Economics 101 also says that the inevitable counter-tariffs lead to a decrease in local production. Exports go down, because US products get even less attractive to the Canadians, Mexicans, Europeans and Chinese. Americans, too, get shafted with products of a lesser quality, or of a higher price. I can't begin to think how much foreign debt the US has. Let's just not go there.
