  4.  @TruthTeller-100  You're forgetting about intellectual property and the fact that manufacturing of many Western products has been outsourced to the likes of India and China. More often than not, its final assembly, too, which adds relatively little value to the final product. The Western IP owners have a say about exports to Russia, or the manufacturers in question will suffer sanctions as well. In effect, they have to choose between Western markets or Russia -- they can't have it both ways.

  8.  @ab1858  Would-be, could-be? Russian imperialism is very real. Russia is waging a war of conquest in Ukraine. Putin thinks of himself as Peter the Great reincarnated. Medvedev expects Ukraine to cease to exist in a couple of years. How much more explicit do they need to get? American imperialism would be out of scope -- if indeed it can deemed such. Americans have a penchant for military adventurism, but they always grow bored and leave. Russia, on the other hand, sticks around like an endemic pest.
