@Tagedieb I'm more concerned about the Americans, and their fondness for military adventurism. Germany is the opposite.

@live_free_or_perish You still don't understand the issue, or you're just too young to do so. West Germany had a credible defence, but unified Germany naively disarmed to an unacceptable extent. Luckily, its eastern neighbours, more particularly Poland, picked up some of the slack.

@u.p.1038 Of course it's naive. Germany is now scampering to catch up with reality, suddenly pouring an extra €100 billion into its military. Even so, after decades of neglect, it will prove an uphill battle. It will take decades, too, to make the Bundeswehr fighting fit again. I suppose you've never heard of speaking softly but carrying a big stick?

@u.p.1038 I see you're not a believer in collective defence, where every member pitches in equally. Also, your conspiracy theory about the military-industrial complex appears to be recycled from the US, where there's probably some truth to it, but not in Germany. Moreover, Germany isn't one for gunboat diplomacy. Again, you'd better seek out more convincing examples.

@u.p.1038 I think you're choosing to misunderstand me. The military-industrial complex is as real any lobby group, but it's not like they get to set foreign policy. To claim otherwise is tantamount to a conspiracy theory.
