The G7, who epitomise capitalism, are contributing to $7.5B to the COVAX fund, which seeks to vaccinate people in poorer countries. That's free, by the way.

Vaccine diplomacy is a thing, just like vaccine nationalism is, of which the "West" is accused. Russia and China have discovered the former, too, and are keenly making "friends". Incidentally, there's a vaccine against both vaccine nationalism and vaccine diplomacy. It's called the WHO's COVAX programme. No strings attached when poorer countries draw from it. I believe the US is now the top monetary contributor, closely followed by the EU.

@manodiptam100 It's the pharmaceutical companies that patent the drugs. Our governments can't prevent them from doing so short of dismantling the whole worldwide patent system, but that would cause 99% of high-tech innovation to grind to a screeching halt. As a holder of multiple patents, I can say it's a crappy system, but like democracy, it's the best we've got.
