  6. Tellingly, the compilers of the Democracy Index downgraded the US to 'flawed democracy' when Trump made president. Not because of Trump's policies, but because of how he rode the wave of eroding trust in US democratic institutions to the presidency. If Trump makes president again, despite his very selective stance towards democracy, the US truly deserves to be downgraded once more.
