If you take the last century or so, Russia is not exactly a poster boy for political stability. I can name many democracies that coasted through the same period without much shock to their system.

Trumps stands in awe of autocrats. There's a measure of envy as well. But as a narcissist, I don't think he's capable of loyalty, which "pro-ness" entails.

@dempsey2025 Not only "smart", but also, "genius", "savvy", "great charm", "tough cookie" were words that Trump used to describe Putin as Russian troops were entering Ukraine. If that isn't praise, I don't know what is. Trump taking Putin at his word that Russia wasn't paying the Taliban to kill US troops was an odd move even for an odd President. Moreover, Trump tut-tutted Navalny's poisoning at the hands of Putin, despite clear evidence to the contrary. He's deferential all right, which suggests Trump is a fan.
