@MetallicReg War is a crime in itself. Plenty of political leaders have been prosecuted for starting wars.

@MetallicReg I don't think you're very informed on the matter. There is such an internationally accepted principle as casus belli. Russia didn't have one when it invaded Ukraine.

How exactly is Putin getting stronger here? Russia is subjected to crippling sanctions, and its economy wasn't sound to begin with. Occupying Ukraine comes with a huge price tag. Let's see how ordinary Russians endure the hardship.

@MetallicReg It's not about how Russia (re)defines casus belli. It's about what the international community accepts as a valid definition. We don't even have to speculate, because we can extrapolate from the international response to the Crimean Crisis that Russia's home-grown definition doesn't fly. A casus belli involves direct offenses or threats against the nation declaring the war. Was Russia subjected to Ukraine's direct offences or threats? The answer is an unequivocal "no."
