@pb5014 Did you expect Finland to blow up an unarmed tanker, full of highly-flammable fuel? Are you an armchair Rambo?

The territorial waters of Finland, Sweden and Denmark are carefully patrolled. Finland, for instance, has an extensive hydrophone network that covers its entire southern coast. International waters are another kettle of fish. Perhaps you don't know the area.

@stevanjakovljevic8390 Ukraine, if indeed Nord Stream its doing, can compare notes with Russia about the mutual destruction they've heaped on each other and see who ends up compensating whom. No doubt it will prove very costly -- for Russia.

The cost of a repairing the damage is bound to exceed the value of any rickety Russian shadow fleet ship and its cargo. I believe Eagle S will end up seized, but not before a legal battle that will last for years. Closing access to the Russian Baltic ports would be considered an act of war. There are precedents, like the Six-Day War.

@ No argument there, it would be great if we could in one fell swoop discourage Russia from committing further acts of sabotage. However, we adhere to the rule of law. They don't call this ambiguous warfare for nothing. Anyhow, NATO is now stepping up its presence in the Baltic Sea. Without the sabotage, Russia would've cried foul, but now it just has to grin and bear it. Russia can't reciprocate, because it lacks the necessary naval assets.

@TheJensss Because we prefer a rule-based international order, which not only means that we enforce the rules, but also abide by them ourselves. Besides, we haven't exhausted all means of countering Russia within the confines of the law. It may not be sufficiently Ramboesque for your taste, but it is what it is.

@TheJensss That would be tantamount to NATO declaring war on Russia. There's no need to rush headlong into a shooting war. If Russia wants to play ambiguous warfare, two can play that game. We could schedule extra 'maintenance' breaks on overland data cables that serve Russia. That ought to get the message across.

If Nord Stream was an Ukrainian retaliation in response to Russia's military aggression, how's this NATO's fault? Throughout the war, Ukraine has been actively targeting Russia's oil and gas facilities. Russia should not poke the bear.
