@lg2058 So? It goes without saying that NATO expands when more countries join. Putin should give Russia's neighbours no cause to join NATO, but the 4D pigeon chess master does the exact opposite. I expect NATO remembers him with a gift basket for Christmas.

@Howiex-is8gq The bot deserves credit for novelty. It's a novel variation on the "loosing" misconjugation that bots habitually use.

@lg2058 You contradicted yourself. Reread you own post. It's as clear as day. Putin can shout himself hoarse about Russia's geostrategic interests, be it with regard to Ukraine or Finland, but unless his topics of interest agree, it's of no consequence. Spheres of influence aren't defined unilaterally in this day and age. Ever since the end of WW2, Finland pursued a policy of armed neutrality, just like Sweden. More so than Sweden, Finland stuck with its armed neutrality after the Cold War. I'll give you two guesses which invader in particular the Finns were -- and are -- preparing to fight off. No, not NATO, not Sweden, but...? Are you trying to claim that Russia invaded Ukraine because of Stoltenberg? Your argumentation seems a bit off.

For your info, India is requesting a lot of weapons from the West.

Because might isn't right? You're an anachronism.

@GodwinGodfather Read about the Anglo-Zanzibar War. It lasted 38 minutes. And why was it "inevitable" for Russia to unleash its aggression on Ukraine, pray tell?
1
@lg2058 I suppose you're wholly unawares that you're contradicting yourself. Ukraine is a neighbour of Russia. Duh. Finland has always been on Russia's target list, or the Finns wouldn't have built nuclear shelters to accommodate practically the whole population. The real question is, how are the unprotected Saint Peterburgians going to manage, when the fallout from the Russian nukes reaches them? Are you aware of the distance between Finland's major population centres and Saint Petersburg, and the prevailing winds?

It's interesting that Trump is gearing up for a trade war with Canada. How does that gel with your (conspiracy) theory?
1
Well, you thought wrong. Europe is.
1
You're basically advocating that smaller countries should submit to their larger neighbours. In doing so, you're binning the UN Charter, which Russia is supposed to abide by.
1
@Gaspardini Regions submit voluntarily to a central government and there's typically a high degree of devolution, sometimes even complete autonomy. By now, it should be painfully clear to one and all that Ukraine doesn't aspire to be a region of the Russian Federation. The independence referendums in Eastern Ukraine were deemed a complete sham. The UNGA couldn't have made it any clearer.
1
@Gaspardini You misunderstand. Russia organised referendums in the occupied territories. Those were a judged a complete sham. I believe no neighbouring country (France?) invaded Catalonia to organise a sham referendum there. I have seen no news reports of Spanish military involvement either.
1
@Gaspardini I have to admit, I have no idea what your point is. You jump back and forth between Eastern Ukraine and Catalonia as if the cases are somehow comparable. It's quite enough for me that the UNGA deemed the 2022 referendums in Eastern Ukraine invalid with a whopping majority, 143 against 5. To add insult to injury, at present only North Korea recognises them as Russian, after the other, Syria, underwent a sudden change of management. And don't you think it would problematic for Ukraine to organise a real referendum in territories that are under Russian occupation? Plus there's this brutal war going on. Gawd... How on earth did you come up with Catalonia invading France -- even as a talking point? I feel like I'm playing chess with a pigeon here.
1
Because they would've amounted to appeasing an aggressor?

NATO expansion is a result of Russia's neighbours seeking security guarantees against Russian aggression. And no-one has punched Russia and/or Putin. Sovereign nations can strike alliances as they see fit. That includes countries that join CSTO -- Russia's not-so-popular and less-than-ideally-functioning anti-NATO.
