  1. It's not that big a novelty. There was the US spyplane that got clipped by an equally foolhardy Chinese fighter jock. The Yanks had to make an emergency landing on Chinese territory, while the Chinaman tumbled to his death.

  2. It was an obvious screw-up. Intentionally clipping the turboprop of a Reaper is like voluntarily putting your hand inside a spinning blender. The prop might as well have chewed up the cockpit.

  5. On the contrary, the bumbling fool is lucky to be alive. He could've been chewed up by the prop or lost a wing. Last time, when a Chinese fighter jock clipped a US aircraft, he didn't live to tell the tale.

  6. Let's be honest, he bungled it up. As to the balloon take-down, it was a short-range infrared missile, and taking a high-altitude balloon down with cannon fire is surprising difficult. There's the risk of debris damaging the fighter jet, or the perforated balloon just continuing on its merry way. There's a well-known case of a rogue weather balloon crossing the Atlantic after being riddled with cannon fire.
