@aksbeixhev Not quite. It's a dual-key system, so both Germany and the US need to agree on the use of the B61s stationed in Germany. The Germans need to deliver them, too.

@mal6232 Russia has been *militarising the border for years. Ironically, Ukraine has done a stellar job demilitarising it, as the Russian troops stationed there got decimated in Ukraine. One unit alone, the "elite" 200th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, lost 40% of its men and materiel.

If anything, Germany should be embarrassed by letting its guard down after the collapse of the Soviet Union. There were many wake-up calls over the years, but Germany bet all its chips on an increasingly misguided Wandel durch Handel policy. The only silver lining is that Germany's less naïve eastern neighbours snapped up ex-Bundeswehr kit at bargain basement prices, allowing them to bolster their defences beyond what defence budgets would've allowed otherwise. Poland and Finland spring to mind.
