  1. The US-China trade balance is misleading. China assembles electronics, and in doing so, adds relatively little value to the products in question, typically 5-10%. Yet when measuring the trade balance, the full price of the import is calculated in, as if all the components were Chinese in origin, too. Mostly, they're not.
