Russians still like to travel to Turkey. If there's another mobilisation round, they'll like it even more.

@trutharrow5311 Since when have Western countries stolen from Turkey? When it came to colonialism, Turkey led the way.

@Tabula_Rasa1 What a childish straw man fallacy. For your info, I have a masters in history. I'm bowing out, this is like playing chess with a pigeon.

@Tabula_Rasa1 I have a double masters, pal. Let me guess, yours is an associate's degree in sanitation? Gotta know how to swing that mop.

@embar9585 It's the Copenhagen criteria that keep Turkey out of the EU. Erdogan eschews democratic governance and human rights, and while he wouldn't say no to a functional market economy, it's not happening under his "expert" tutelage.

Practically every country has or had a local cola drink. How come Turkey is such a laggard?

@Tabula_Rasa1 I suppose that in your exquisite mind, the Ottoman Empire wasn't Turkish.

@Tabula_Rasa1 And you sound the opposite. Which part of "empire" don't you understand?

That's not how it works. Is 'economies of scale' a foreign concept to you?

@whereisjustice5112 You're welcome. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

@Tabula_Rasa1 You told me I should study history, so I explained that I already have. You grew concerned that I could only find employment as a librarian -- I reassured you that I have other degrees (yes, plural) to fall back on. Your defensiveness suggests that your academic credentials are... non-existent? University of life, but you failed to graduate?

@meybsolanbircicek The Ottoman Empire sure was colonial. Colonialism is defined as "control by one power over a dependent area or people." The Ottoman Empire had lots of those. As it happens, an ancestor of mine fought to kick out the Ottomans from Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). The grateful Bulgarians still credit us for helping them regain their freedom from colonial oppression. I studied at the University of Leuven. Lots of material on colonialism. Unlike you, the Belgians don't hide their murky past.

One swallow does not a summer make. There were US consumer boycotts of French products during the early stages of the Iraq War, because France wouldn't join Dubya's crusade war on terror -- or at least the controversial Iraqi part of it. French wine producers were hurt, but still, France didn't join the fight and its US-bound wine exports quickly recovered.
