No biggie. Russia can choose between selling India dirt-cheap oil, or crying and selling India dirt-cheap oil. It's not like there's a queue forming at Russia's doorstep for oil, and it desperately needs the foreign currency, even if the effective exchange rate sucks to high heaven.

@razpor Fellow Axis member Japan was trying to make its way into India, but that went pear-shaped, thanks to the tenacity of Indian soldiers.

Don't we all. India is busily trying to flog the HAL Tejas "fighter" wherever it can. Too bad it's got a US engine, which means the Americans get to have their say-so about prospective customers. I suppose the indigenous Kaveri engine is effectively in the bin.

@American-In-Mykolaiv India is desperately trying to balance itself on an ever-wonkier fence. It's a hopeless task, because India needs Western arms to counterbalance China. Russia can't even meet domestic demand, and also, the quality of Russian weapons leaves a lot to be desired. India had better curry favour with the West (no pun intended).

@svanimation8969 It sounds like you smear dung all over yourselves and then, to your delight, the flies come.

Uh-oh, Russia is about to be held back a grade, while India made it to the next grade. India had better make new friends to make up. There's bully in the same class -- China -- so India truly needs those new friends.

You're misinformed. Germany was a staunch critic of the Iraq War, and refused to have anything to do with it, much to the chagrin of the US. Together with France, Germany effectively torpedoed NATO's involvement in the war. Germany did go into Afghanistan as part of ISAF -- with the full blessing of the UN Security Council. In case you're unaware, Russia and China are permanent UNSC members, with full veto powers.

More like showcasing their kit in anticipation of Eurofighter and Atlas sales to India.

@suryanshsagar2677 Indian defence procurement is such an unbelievable mess that I wouldn't trust anything being planned. Germany must have a masochistic streak.

Sure, India likes to teeter on the fence. Let's hope India doesn't go Humpty Dumpty on us.
1
@suryanshsagar2677 Wishful thinking on your part, I'm afraid. The Tejas Mk2 will get the F414. Each export deal for the Mk2 is still subject to US approval. The Kaveri is relegated to obscure future drone duty, which is hardly an endorsement. There's more to a jet engine than thrust alone.
1
@saba1030 So, in your expert assessment, each and every arms manufacturer and every single country in the world needs to give its permission for Tejas exports? Oh what a tangled web India has woven.
1
@suryanshsagar2677 If anything, the Kaveri is a moving target. You might as well claim it will be used to re-engine your uncle's Padmini.
1
@suryanshsagar2677 So idioms aren't your thing. How do I put it, a truly usable, fit for purpose Kaveri is an elusive objective. That the jet engine has a troubled history is an understatement. Any Indian defence specialist will readily admit it.

@suryanshsagar2677 The point is, success still eludes India. And it hasn't been for the luck of trying.
1
@suryanshsagar2677 Very, very laboriously, you should add. Recently, I read a report that compared the defence industries of South Korea and India. Despite a similar starting point, SK's defence industry is firing on all cylinders, churning out planes and tanks that are selling like hotcakes. Korea has become the world's 8th largest arms exporter. Meanwhile, India has become the world's 2nd largest arms importer.

Don't you know, taking Indian land is something Pakistan and China aspire to. Not Germany. Germany wants to give its arms industry yet another boost now that Russia is effectively leaving the international arms market.
