Why, Trump hasn't been jailed once.

Why theorise about EU involvement? Assange has the option of brining his case to European Court of Human Rights. It comes under the Council of Europe, of which the UK remains a member to this day. In other words, there's no unclarity about jurisdiction.

@Habib_Osman In other words, you feel might is right. Let's abolish the rule of law.

There's no distinct "Western" democracy. There's just democracy. Those who need to add the adjective "Western" either suffer from lack of democracy or they are closeted fans of authoritarianism.

@aleong.9566 I'll take the compliment. How is "Assange, Snowden etc." supposed to reflect on democracy per se? As far as rights go, shouldn't you have picked freedom of the press instead? As for "Western" democracy, the parties concerned are the US, UK and Sweden. I don't think "the West" as a whole got together and decided to go after Assange and Snowden.

@aleong.9566 Oh, we're doing conspiracies now? Did the UK leave the EU to lord over it? Why were the Brits in such high spirits over regaining their independence? It's not the behaviour you'd expect from an overlord. You make precious little sense.
1
@aleong.9566 Be that as it may, Britain's Brexit woes suggest that the UK is the subservient party and not the EU. There goes your conspiracy theory about UK supremacy over Europe.

Assange has legal avenues that he could still pursue. One is the European Court of Human Rights. For some reason, he hasn't brought his case there.

@bonnie7898 *You're. I have not taken a position as to whether Assange's rights have been violated or not. Pay attention.
1
@DarkSkay If Assange wants to fight the UK High Court decision to extradite him, a decision that was made in late 2021, the EU has no jurisdiction. The European Court of Human Rights does.
1
@DarkSkay Brexit?
1
@DarkSkay It remains unclear. Even if the EU were to retain jurisdiction, the UK had an opt-out in place for CFR according to which applicable EU law doesn't supersede UK law.
1
@DarkSkay You missed the "if Assange wants...".
