  1.  @hj-xb2tr  At the risk of sounding sanctimonious, we do perform better in just about every societal aspect if authoritative international comparisons are to be believed. For your info, we haven't looked up to the USA for a long time when comparing ourselves to other top achievers. It's always other European countries and typically Canada and New Zealand. As to our alleged insecurities vis à vis Americans, I find the reverse to be true. In my experience, you Americans tend to get defensive the moment I mention that I'm a Euro. Mileages vary on a continent so culturally diverse as Europe, but in our neck of the woods, we associate bragging with having bad body odour.
