  1. Napoleon suffered his worst defeat in Russia, but not before he took Moscow and stayed there till he grew bored. The territory he had taken didn't do him any good. How's Russia going to occupy hostile territory with its already fatally-wounded economy? The sanctions aren't going to lift themselves.

  2. Russia's fatally-wounded economy won't survive that long. The sanctions won't be lifted until there's a basis for a lasting peace. My money's on a colour revolution in a few years' time.

  4.  @caty863  I don't think Russia is winning hearts and mind by levelling cities in Donbas with little regard for life and property. The illegal annexation of Crimea saw a great many indigenous Tatars flee. The authorities have harshly suppressed critics. Sounds like occupation tactics to me. Donbas will only be worse.
